54 www.finance-monthly.com Finance Monthly Global Awards 2016 UNITED KINGDOM PROBATE LAWYER OF THE YEAR Winner: About Katherine Alexander-Theodotou Dr Katherine Alexander-Theodotou is one of the founder members of the organisation Justice for Lawyers. She is responsible for introducing into the Cypriot House of Representatives a discussion on dangerous currencies and has enormously persuaded other professional bodies in other countries to follow her example. Dr Katherine grew up in Cyprus, and from an early age was very creative and showed a great interest in the arts. Distinguished as a painter, she won the top prize at the (YEAR) commonwealth competition. After being offered a scholarship at the Athens School of Fine Arts, trouble began in Cyprus and Dr Katherine was drawn back to her home country. By (YEAR), Katherine had moved to London to pursue a career in law like her father, who was a crime specialised barrister in the British capital. After passing the bar, she decided to continue her venture into the arts, gained two European Phds in Classical studies, and to this day still esteems highly the philosophies of Plato and Aristoteles, quotes from which are the basis of many of Dr Katherine’s principles, both in her personal life and her legal career. Justice For Lawyers Justice for Lawyers is a voluntary charitable organisation which aims to assist the law society and the SRA in finding practical business approach regulations for the interests of the lawyers. Dr Katherine Alexander Theodotou is a bilateral lawyer practicing in UK and Cyprus. She is a solicitor as well as an advocate. She is the winner of major Landmarks for example: Barclay Watt v. Alpha Panaretti Ltd, John Taylor v. Giovanni, Lijana Armalite & others v. Medgolf Properties Limited & others, Stephen William Aston & Ors v. A Chacholis Developers Limited which could be viewed in Lawtell, Lexis Nexis and Westlaw. Justice for Lawyers is currently campaigning to involve SRA and the Law Society in our campaign for fairer professional regulations: 1. The solicitors’ profession is a very competitive one. Both the Law Society and SRA should aim to assist the solicitors in achieving their goals, to offer the best service to their clients. At the same time there must be a protection for the solicitors not to be abused either by the public or by the regulator. It is our knowledge that a good number of solicitors have been the victims of gruesome and lengthy investigation based on pure suspicion and false complains and accusations. 2. We have evidence of an investigation which was manipulated by a competitive firm in order to solicit clients from the ‘accused’ firm for their own financial benefit.
