BMT offers comprehensive services to enterprises and entrepreneurs in all fields of business law, ranging from „A“ as in anti-trust, „C“ as in company law and commercial law, “E” as in employment law, “L” as in “labour law” and „M“ as in mergers & acquisitions to „T“ as in transport, forwarding and logistics. In its roots, Büsing Müffelmann & Theye goes all the way back to Bremen attorneys and notaries in the 19th century. In 1961, Dr. Constantin Frick and Arthur Büsing founded a joint law firm that quickly made a name for itself in Northern Germany. This served as the basis from which a partnership later developed in successive steps. Dr. Constantin Frick, who was admitted as a notary public in 1947, was considered an expert in trade law. In addition to his work as a lawyer, he assumed the tasks of a legal adviser of the associations Bremer Spediteure (Bremen Shipping Carriers) and Deutscher Heringsfischereien (German Herring Fisheries). Arthur Büsing enhanced the partnership to include knowledge of tax law and excellent association contacts. In 1964, Dr. Hans-Dietrich Genscher and Dr. Herbert Müffelmann joined the partnership. In 1967, an office building centrally located at Marktstrasse 3 was added and serves as BMT’s office site there to this current day. Hans-Dietrich Genscher assumed the position of Germany’s Federal Minister of the Interior in 1969 and, for this reason, took leave from his position as an attorney-at-law. In 1978, the law firm began operating officially under the name ”Büsing, Müffelmann & Theye“. Coming from strong roots The headquarters’ location in the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen, considered to be one of the most important commercial centres in Europe thanks to its modern port facilities, plays a significant role in the office’s advisory work. Not only because Hanseatic understatement is part of our self-conception, but also due to the local specifics, which allow BMT to be particularly active in business fields of a trade and commercial nature, such as: commercial and company law, employment law, labour law and tax law. As of the 1980s, BMT took the lead in developing the creation of private radio broadcasting in Germany. By the time private broadcasting stations went on air for the first time in Germany, BMT had also gained a new core competence with sound knowledge in step with the practice of media law. Since then, media law and the law of intellectual property are amongst the most sought-after core competencies at the law firm. In 1989 BMT enforces the expansion of its expertise into the areas of media law and industrial property rights, with the opening of its second office, in Frankfurt am Main. At the same time, we continue to receive inquiries concerning projects in technology law or tasks from the field of research and development. In 1997 BMT opened the offices in Berlin. In 2008 BMT opened its fourth office in Munich. BMT at its four offices has a very strong position in employment and labour law and provides national and international employers as well as executives with legal advice. The head of the labour and employment group is Dr. Andre Sayatz, who has been awarded with the Award „Employment Lawyer of the Year in Germany“. He is practicing in the Berlin office.
