BUSINESS PREMISES SOLICITOR OF THE YEAR ABOUT LEIGH HERD Leigh Herd is a solicitor at Shepherd and Wedderburn, based in the firm’s Property and Infrastructure Disputes team in Edinburgh. Leigh specialises in contentious construction, with her experience ranging across the field of construction, engineering and major projects disputes, operating north and south of the border. She has experience of both Court of Session and Sheriff Court actions, as well as significant experience in alternative dispute resolution, including adjudication, arbitration and mediation. Leigh is also involved in commercial litigation, and has been heavily involved in cases pursuing high profile professional negligence claims, and representing clients in complex contractual disputes. Alongside her role as solicitor at Shepherd and Wedderburn, Leigh is also the Honorary Secretary and Treasurer for the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Scottish Branch). Within this role Leigh is responsible for the day to day administration of the Branch, and assisting practitioners within Scotland with queries on arbitration and ADR. Since 2015, Leigh has played an active role in the global organisation which represents practitioners involved in alternative dispute resolution. Previously, as CIArb Scottish Branch’s Young Members’ convenor, she also promoted the interests of young and aspiring practitioners, helping to create opportunities for them to contribute to the alternative dispute resolution community.
