After having been an entrepreneur in the IT industry for almost fifteen years and having bought and sold several companies, he learned the key aspects involved in valuing companies. Marc was determined to use his experience to help entrepreneurs and managers with valuation issues and gradually transitioned into this sector. Having completed a number of courses to broaden his theoretical knowledge in the field, he currently holds Masters Degrees in Valuation, Economics and Law and is a chartered business valuator and expert witness in The Netherlands. Over the years, Marc has realised that valuations in the context of shareholder and commercial disputes as well as determining the quantum of damages appeal to him more, as opposed to more generic or accounting valuations. Today, BFI Global is a flourishing practice which serves great clients from various industries, both nationally and internationally, by offering top- notch valuation advice and protecting the financial interests of clients who are involved in disputes or litigations. The company and its team are also regularly appointed as expert witnesses by various courts. What are the origins of BFI Global and why did you want to start the business? BFI Global was founded by myself and Prof. Jan Adriaanse, a well-known turnaround and cause investigation expert. When setting up the company, we developed a holistic approach for doing good research into the causes of business failure and insolvency. Unbiased and independent, we combined our knowledge and experience that quickly resulted in us investigating the causes of several high-profile bankruptcies in The Netherlands during the past three years, including the associated valuation issues.
