Seven Insurance Brokers - Financial Planning
Paul has been in the personal finance and insurance industry since 2007 when he started as an assistant to a CFP® practitioner in Durban, South Africa. His Bachelor of Commerce degree in corporate and personal finance, as well as economics, gave him a good entry point to the industry, but putting that knowledge into practice was a great learning experience.
During his time as an assistant, and then an advisor under supervision, Paul realised that financial planning was not about selling policies, but rather about understanding clients’ needs and aspirations and providing solutions to best suit those needs.
He recognised that in order to provide the best advice, he needed to study further and so undertook various industry-specific courses before completing his Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning. This qualification, along with his ongoing membership with the Financial Planning Institute of South Africa, enabled him to become a CFP® professional in 2011.
After moving to the UAE in 2016, Paul knew that he needed to extend his knowledge and skills further and in 2021 completed the Investment Advice Diploma through the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment in the UK. This allowed Paul to transfer his South African CFP® designation to the CISI and since November 2021 he is a UK qualified CFP™ professional as well.
Paul offers holistic financial planning, and always insists that his clients understand their finances before making any decisions. He wants to ensure that even his smallest clients understand the strategies they are implementing.
He believes strongly in Critical Illness and Permanent Disability cover, having had a number of family members suffer from cancer and other severe illnesses. Education and awareness of how critical illness insurance works is a priority for Paul, especially for those clients who have outstanding debts and also future costs relating to their children and retirement savings.
Finally, Paul’s understanding of multiple jurisdictions allows him to advise his clients when they relocate to a different country. He has a sound understanding of South African tax and has built up a strong professional network that he can refer his clients to for specialist advice.
